Kwaku Owusu Agyei Ampem(UG GA Speaker)
In the face of the heated combat mounted against the overwhelming implications of COVID19 and the ravaging effects it comes with, it appears the prestigious institution on the hill, Ghana’s premier University is having its own version of pandemonium to deal with. Having been giving the opportunity to serve as speaker of the General Assembly, Mr. Kwaku Ampem has repeatedly and copiously, time and over, abused his office by way of involving in electoral malpractices.
His recent strides in the act has however broken the camel’s back, in which many have questioned the integrity of the gentleman. The credibility of the very election that ushered him into power has been subjected to intensive scrutiny of which interesting revelations have been made. According to findings, his election was annulled and voided by the SRC Judicial board due unsolicited electoral malfiscience, some way some how however, the Dean of Students overrode the decision of the Judicial Board to grant him stay of execution.
Be that as the case is, Mr. Ampem and his allied cronies appear to be unperturbed and clear in thought about their set agenda. In return to be installed as SRC EC, one Zanu Emmanuel an electoral commissioner of the Commonwealth Hall rigged the JCR election in tandem with Mr. Ampem’s biases and preferences that has consequently created fettered cracks in the hall, all in anticipation of a promotion to the highest office of EC within the enclaves of the University of Ghana.
Precedentially, at the recently concluded GA meeting, held on the 20th of May, in another futile effort to perpetrate another illegality, Mr. Ampem unilaterally, without recourse appropriate functionary conducted and presided over a vote to whether or not approve candidates vetted and qualified by the Vetting Committee to occupy the SRC EC portfolio despite the vehement displeasure registered by majority of the house.
Shockingly but not surprising enough, the election was again rigged to disapprove the already qualified candidates in order to preserve the portfolio for his darling boy Zanu Emmanuel who satisfied his bidding. The unfortunate turnout met strong protest and agitation from the house as many are calling for the removal of the recalcitrant and extremely dubious GA speaker.
It indeed, saddens me to the core to know persons who supposedly, are leaders of the future have began to demonstrate this level of depravity and vicious tendencies. We must begin to take a more critical and inward look at ourselves and the people who front our interest for some are highly poisonous. The speaker is no less a disgrace to the office and must be removed to serve as deterrent to all and sundry.
